Ciucaș Mountains: the mountain paradise of the Curved Carpathians

A spectacular mountain with unique cliffs, alpine meadows and stunning trails

The Ciucas is undoubtedly the most beautiful mountain in the Curved Carpathians, famous for its distinctive cliffs, lush alpine meadows, spectacular trails and rich vegetation. This protected area, located on the territories of Brasov and Prahova counties, offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and mountain hikers.

Two main ridges and a variety of geological formations

The Ciucaș Mountains are made up of two main peaks: Ciucaș - Bratocea and Grohoare - Zăganu. The highest point is Ciucaș Peak (1,954 m). The massif presents a wide range of irregular rocky groups of various sizes and geomorphic shapes, the most important of which are: Babele la Sfat, Mâna Dracului, Goliath's Tower, Red Tower, Colții Bratocei, Colții Zăganu, Ciuperele, Tigăile Mari and Tigăile Mici or Sfinxul Bratocei.

Rich biodiversity and diverse habitats

The Ciucaș is home to a rich biodiversity, with around 1,750 species of animals, of which over 1,500 are invertebrates. Next in number are birds, with 150 species, and mammals, with 60 species. The diversity of habitats, from alpine meadows to forests and cliffs, contributes to this wealth of life.

Access and useful information for tourists:

Access to Ciucaș is quite easy, but to reach the Ciucaș Hut, from where the marked trails leave on the mountain, a minimum physical condition is required.

How to get there:

  • From Brasov, follow the route towards Săcele, until the entrance to the resort of Cheia.
  • Here, you can leave your car at Cabana Monte Roșu.
  • Follow the marked trail that will take you to Cabana Ciucaș (about 2 hours walk).

Mountain trails:

  • Ciucaș - Bratocea (medium difficulty, 4-5 hours)
  • Ciucaș - Grohoare - Zăganu (high difficulty, 7-8 hours)
  • Ciucaș Hut - Ciucaș Peak (medium difficulty, 2-3 hours)

Recommendations:

  • Wear footwear suitable for mountain hiking.
  • Bring water, food and clothes for the rain.
  • Respect nature and don't leave tracks on the trail.
